Basic Info
Name:Deadly Darkling Dexter
Birthdate:1971-10-13
Bio
Information

Name: Dexter Morgan
Fandom: DEXTER (TV)
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Sexual Orientation: Awkward
Pairings: Pretends to be heterosexual, but is asexual more than anything else. He deliberately chooses women who are either disinterested in sex or unable, for whatever reason, to engage in it, so that he doesn't have to worry about doing it himself. He has a fear of sex, because he finds it undignified and unsatisfying; worse, he is almost never able to maintain his 'mask' during sex. Most of his previous girlfriends have seen through his feigned emotionality during sex, even if he had totally fooled them before, even if, as always, he had no negative intentions toward them whatsoever. Hence, he avoids actual sexual intercourse like the plague, except with Rita, the one woman he's been able to have 'successful' intercourse with (perhaps because she's the only woman other than his sister he's ever felt even the tiniest sparks of caring towards ... )
Version: OR
Colour and Jewelry: Ruby Collar

Home District: Sixth
Occupation: Criminalist; blood spatter analyst
Appearance
Dexter Morgan is a good-looking man, in an utterly unremarkable fashion. Much like fellow serial killer Ted Bundy, though to a much lesser degree, he has a natural chameleon's features. Unlike Bundy, who never looked the same twice in any given picture ever taken of him, Dexter's features are relatively distinctive on their own, but their sum is no greater than its parts, and as small a thing as changing how he parts his burnt auburn hair, or neglecting to shave, can change his whole appearance. He is always expressive, always faintly handsome, always auburn-haired, always hazel-eyed. His eyes are a large part of his personal mutability -- they're that sort of hazel that seems to change in different lighting, against different outfits. Some people swear he has blue eyes, others brown, still others gray.
When he was living in Miami, his appearance was always meticulously neat, normal, and above all, unremarkable, but after death he has let his appearance slide. What point is there in keeping up appearances in what might as well be Hell, after all? He hasn't been there long; just long enough to realize there's really no point to it. His wardrobe after death remains thoroughly functional, but the function has changed. He still tries to blend in, but nowadays that's often in a more literal sense ... dark grays as well as blacks to blend in with the mists, always carefully anonymous. When he wants to, of course, he can dazzle a room with personality, particularly a low-browed, tooth-baring grin saturated with pure wickedness. Most people are charmed by it, not even noticing the mask ...
He isn't an especially tall man, about 5'10", but he was in excellent shape before he picked up that little scrap of paper at a crime scene, and now, due to the high-octane "life"style he's been pursuing lately, he's if anything in even better shape. He never, ever goes anywhere without at least one pair of sterile white rubber gloves, a fresh slide, and a knife tucked into a pocket. You never know, in Niflheim, when opportunity might knock ...
Personality
Dexter Morgan is a hopelessly confused person. Born normal, broken by the horrific murder of his birth mother, and "repaired" by a Miami cop with an agenda, righteous though it may (or may not) have been, he sometimes finds himself driven three directions at once. He is not a sociopath in the classic sense, for he *does* feel. But his emotions are not normal. They are thin, surface-level, and often fleeting. Those few strong emotions are rare and often disturbing and unsettling to him. He is a fundamentally intellectual person who deals with life in an intellectual way. He follows the Code of Harry to the letter, with only so much emotional investment as he's able to have. He is utterly morally extinct by conventional standards, yet he has his own internal code of behavior from which he never, ever deviates. He is intense, ritualistic, and expansive. When he isn't playing a character, he is passionate about his "work", but also about art and music, albeit in a casual way. He isn't a critic, just a partaker. Somewhat ironically, he has become as an adult extremely aware of what other people say and do, how they behave, and how they think -- out of necessity, for survival, of course -- but he is frequently un-self-aware to an extreme. He often thinks he has no emotions at all -- even when he's going out of his way to do something for someone else for absolutely no reason other than because he was asked to, even when it really isn't necessary to maintain his disguise or the friendship. In fact, when he found that cryptic scrap of paper, he was in the process of discovering that Harry wasn't the pure, shining being Dexter has always thought he was, and that he has deeper, stronger emotions than he thought. Of course, dying and ending up in Niflheim has had an unfortunate effect on that process. He is beginning to allow more emotions in -- but he is more in harmony with his darker, bestial side, far more, and even then, he often feels like three people in one. Not one body with multiple people in it, but one soul with multiple minds, many states of being, each vying for dominance with the others. The primal, hungry, impulsive Beast, the distant, reasoning, analysing Man, and of course, the Dark Passenger ...
Abilities, Talents and Powers
No supernatural powers as such, except perhaps the enigmatic self-notself in the back of his mind he refers to as the Dark Passenger. It may be just an aspect of himself ... it may be something dark and foreign living in his head. But even if it is the latter, it finds harmony with something deep inside him anyway ... it's no accident he is how he is. He is generally a flawless liar and actor, even moreso than he was when he lived. He still doesn't handle sexual/romantic situations well, but he can keep up friendships, even close ones, with little difficulty. When he has trouble he summons up the memory of his sister Deb, which reminds him of the necessity of pretending -- both for others and for his own sake.
Faults and Weaknesses
Where to begin? Aside from his massive personal baggage -- unresolved past trauma, partial sociopathy, and raging addiction to murder, he is in many ways rigid. He operates, fundamentally, on a jittery combination of rigorous if-then logic and raw instinct, which works very well when he's on the ball and horribly when he's not, which, in Niflheim, is really a tossup on any given "day". He is not fully stable, and since dying is prone to intense depressions during which, rather than feeling sad per se, he simply shuts down and retreats into himself, forgoing the act. He either becomes entirely the Man, or entirely the Dark Passenger, shutting out his emotional, hurting animal aspect entirely and forgoing the pretense of the act. It's so pointless in this Hellhole anyway ... how he longs for sunny, angry Miami.
History
Dexter Morgan was born with a different surname. He once had an older brother. But when he was three years old, his family was killed brutally, the mother before the childrens' eyes, and the two brothers abandoned in a shipping crate, sitting in their mother's blood beside her dead body, for two full days. For reasons he never explained, Officer Harry Morgan adopted Dexter, leaving Brian to be absorbed into 'the system'. Harry raised Dexter as if he were his own -- including after he discovered the buried animal bones, and pre-pubescent Dexter's darkness already beginning to flex its wings. Harry, for reasons of his own, chose to train Dexter to focus his homicidal impulses and desires in a more 'productive' direction, to catch all the bad guys who escape the grasp of the police, for whatever reason. Dexter learnt to conceal his own true nature, to pretend to be normal, to blend in. He also learnt to hunt animals and humans alike. Harry did his best to teach Dexter everything he would need to know. His first human kill occurred when Harry was dying of cancer -- the nurse was a so-called "angel of death", a predator by her own fashion. Harry released Dexter to kill her, and he did. Harry lived another year before succumbing, finally, to his illness. This first kill was spontaneous and clumsy, but practice made perfect, and slowly, even as he went into forensic studies at college, he perfected his other profession, adding the blood of ever-uglier human beings to his slide collection. Finally, as an adult, he became a blood-spatter technician for the Miami-Dade Crime Lab. After ten years as a technician, Brian gets back in contact with his brother ... via a series of corpses known publicly as the Ice Truck Killings. Eventually, Brian and Dexter come face-to-face, only to end with Dexter, after a long personal struggle, being forced to put his brother down like a mad dog. After all, Dexter has standards. Brian did not. Yet the discovery that Harry lied, that he had another family, the truth about his past, being forced to kill Brian ... all of this is what was swirling around in Dexter's head when he picked up that little scrap of paper at a crime scene ... and a week or so later, all such concerns became moot. What does anything like that matter when you're already dead -- and you've discovered that, if anything, your job has become ever so much bigger and harder?

Note: Since I've only seen episode one of Season Two and can't afford Showtime, this Dexter died between the end of Season One and the beginning of Season Two. His character and history are otherwise identical to canon.
